Thanks again to Beckie's Mental Mess for this week's insightful prompt about how social media impacts our mental health. Conscious use of social media has been something I have advocated for since starting this blog and it's what actually led me to start the mentally me hashtag. Realizing the power social media has, both good and bad, [...]
I'm excited to participate again in this week's "Working on Us" prompt from Beckie's Mental Mess. Today - "Select 2 music video’s that help you and your mental stability when you listen to it. Also, describe how those songs make you feel?" I hope it's okay that I chose a couple more than two songs (since [...]
Maybe, in my own small way I'm leading a rebellion. From my living room. Rebelling against the beliefs that kept me sick, trapped, and suffering my whole life. Rebelling against my illness telling me differently. A middle finger in the air to the toxic "rest is for the weak" messages. Maybe there's a good reason it's uncomfortable.
It was never about who was doing better or who had it worse. Instead, it was always about the bravery of each and every person who took a step forward no matter how uncertain they were of the journey.
I'm all for promoting good mental and physical health, but it appears our current standards are at odds for both. So yes, it might be safer for people to pursue a more realistic ideal that doesn't take us as far away from who we truly are or what our body naturally wants to do, but if we leave the decision in someone else's hands, we will forever be surrendering our own power.

Interestingly, a lot of this self-discovery came about in the past two years. What has been [...]
So I recently finished a body image support group and had to go in for a general post-program check-in. I'm doing everything I'm supposed to. Honestly! I'm eating well and regularly, using skills, and establishing a somewhat balanced routine. I'm ticking all the right boxes and getting pats on the back ... but part of [...]
Now if you didn't already know, I'm a sucker for a good list (or any itemized index that allows me hold onto the fleeting notion that there's some semblance of order or logic in my life) but I'm sitting here looking at my agenda of counselling "homework" and dreading having to sequentially confront my own [...]
Are some days better than others in terms of your body image? Ever have those days where you just "feel fat"? Turns out, your body image issues aren't rooted in your actual appearance.
Hi everyone! I know it's been a while since I last posted and bit longer since I shared the previous "Recovery Resources" (Emotional Awareness), so here we are with the next update in the series - Distress Tolerance. As I previously mentioned, these posts are primarily a way for me to reflect on the DBT skills [...]
