21 Songs That Make me Feel Less Alone

Music may very well have been a big part of what got me through some of my worst times. It can be so cathartic. Whether there are particular lyrics that resonate with me, or the melody and instrumentals just make me feel, these are some of my favourite songs that make me feel less alone.

Get ready for some catharsis.

  1. Unwell” – Matchbox Twenty

But I’m not crazy, I’m just a little unwell,

I know right now you can’t tell,

But stay awhile and maybe then you’ll see,

A different side of me.”

2. “Someone to You” – BANNERS

3. “Who Knows” – BEGINNERS

This one is relatively light and up tempo – just generally reassuring that no one really knows what’s going to happen, but who cares. A quirky reminder to embrace the uncertainty.

4. “I wanna get better” – Bleachers

5. “The eye” Brandi Carlile

A friend showed me this song during one of my “relapses” and it meant a lot to me.

6. “My little ruin” – Glen Hansard

I just love his voice and the emotion in his music.

7. “You’ve got Your Whole life Ahead of You Baby” – IDER

8. “Yesterday” – Imagine Dragons

9. “Dark Side” – Kelly Clarkson

Throwing it back half a decade or so to some Kelly Clarkson. This was likely the first time I recognized the therapeutic impact music could have. Back in high school this is one of the first songs I was able to relate to in terms of what was going on in my own head and made me feel like maybe I’m not that weird after all, and maybe I’m not alone.

10. “Broken” – Lovelytheband

11. “Human” – Rag’n’Bone Man

12. “Don’t you Worry Child” – Swedish House Mafia

13. “Heavydirtysoul” – twenty one pilots

14. “World Spins Madly On” – The Weepies

15. “Sober Up” – AJR

16. “I Will Follow you into the Dark” – Death Cab for Cutie

17. “Carry On” – Fun.

18. “Headsick” – July Talk

19. “I want to Feel Alive” – The Lighthouse and the Whaler

20. “Life to Fix” – The Record Company

21. “Dark Necessities” – Red Hot Chili Peppers

(One of my favourite bands).
